Collection Overview

Collection Summary

Taj Opus by Wonder Porcelain is a porcelain tile collection inspired by Taj Mahal marble. It comes in three colors:

  • Palace White
  • Emperial Grey
  • Mirage Sand

The 12×24, 24×24, and 24×48 field tiles are offered in matte and polished finishes. A 4″ hex mosaic, a 2×2 mosaic, and a 4×12 bullnose are offered in matte only. All formats are rectified, 9.0mm thick, and set with a 1/8″ minimum grout joint.

The defining feature of Taj Opus is the combination of a warm, softly veined marble look with a consistent technical platform across every size. That makes multi-format layouts straightforward to plan.

Design & Aesthetic

Wonder Porcelain describes Taj Opus as a shimmering, nuanced reinterpretation of Taj Mahal marble. The source stone is known for a soft, creamy base with delicate veining and subtle movement, where warm golden undertones mix with cool grays. The porcelain carries that balance of warmth and calm rather than high-contrast drama, so it reads as quiet and luminous instead of bold.

The collection carries a V3 shade-variation rating, which indicates moderate variation between pieces. Expect visible movement and tonal shifts across a floor or wall, much as a natural stone installation would show.

Finish choice shapes the effect:

  • Polished surfaces heighten reflectivity and depth.
  • Matte surfaces give a softer, low-sheen version of the same look.

The three field sizes can be used individually or together. The 4″ hex and 2×2 mosaics bring the marble look down to a smaller scale.

Design Applications

Tile X Design lists Taj Opus for floor, wall, and shower floor applications. Placement should follow the finish-specific classifications:

  • Matte finishes carry an ANSI IW classification and a DCOF of ≥0.42.
  • Polished finishes are classified ANSI ID, and their DCOF is listed as N/A.

Because the mosaics come only in matte, a matte field tile and matte mosaic can run continuously from a bathroom floor into a shower.

Specifying Taj Opus

All Taj Opus formats share a 9.0mm thickness, rectified edges, and a 1/8″ minimum joint. The 12×24 measures 11 3/4″ × 23 9/16″ actual, and its long side matches the 23 9/16″ width of the 24×24 and 24×48. That alignment simplifies combining formats in modular or multi-size patterns.

Matte and polished perform differently. The bullnose and both mosaics are matte only. A polished installation therefore needs a deliberate plan for edges and accents.

Product Specifications

  • DCOF: Matte ≥0.42
  • Breaking Strength: ≥425lbs
  • MOHs: Polished – 4.0-5.0 | Matte – 7.0
  • Water Absorption: ≤ 0.5%
  • Chemical Resistance: Both – Class E
  • Abrasion Resistance: Polished – Class III | Matte – Class IV
  • ANSI Classification: Polished – ID | Matte – IW
  • Thermal Shock Resistance: Resistant
  • Frost Resistance: Resistant

Frequently Asked Questions

Should I choose matte or polished Taj Opus for a floor?
Matte is the finish with a published DCOF (≥0.42) and an ANSI IW classification. Polished Taj Opus is classified ID, has no DCOF rating, and has a lower Mohs value. Reserve polished for applications where its classification fits.

Are the mosaics and bullnose available in polished?
No. The 4″ hex mosaic, 2×2 mosaic, and 4×12 bullnose are matte only. For a polished field, either treat the matte mosaic as an intentional contrast in sheen or plan a separate edge detail in place of the bullnose.

Can the 12×24, 24×24, and 24×48 be mixed in one layout?
Yes. All three are rectified, 9.0mm thick, and set with the same 1/8″ minimum joint. The 12×24’s long side (23 9/16″) matches the width of the 24×24 and 24×48, which supports multi-format and modular patterns.

What is the best Taj Opus option for a shower floor?
The 4″ hex and 2×2 mosaics are matte, the finish classified ANSI IW. Using a matte field tile in the adjoining bathroom keeps finish and color continuous into the shower.
