Gard Stone by Wonder Porcelain is a matte, stone-look porcelain tile collection. Its design draws on the Italian giardini, or Italian gardens. The palette has three neutrals:
The formats are a 24×48 and a 12×24 field tile, a 2×2 mosaic, and a 4×12 bullnose. Wonder Porcelain developed the palette with builder programs in mind, and Tile X Design positions Gard Stone for commercial spaces. The collection carries an ANSI IW classification and a DCOF of ≥0.42. The defining features of Gard Stone are its tightly edited neutral range and its two field scales, which together cover large open areas and smaller rooms within one program.
Gard Stone’s color story is a simple progression from White through Light Gray to Gray. That gives designers a light, a mid, and a deeper neutral for cool-leaning schemes. The matte finish keeps the surface low-sheen.
The collection carries a V3 shade-variation rating, which indicates moderate variation from piece to piece. Expect visible tonal movement across an installation rather than a uniform field.
The 24×48 suits expansive areas with fewer joints. The 12×24 works at a more conventional scale, and the 2×2 mosaic adds a fine-grained texture in the same colors.
Wonder Porcelain describes Gard Stone as built to meet the needs of builder programs. Tile X Design positions the collection for commercial spaces. Its ANSI IW classification and DCOF of ≥0.42 are the published performance references for placement. The bullnose provides a finished edge in all collection colors listed on the tearsheet.
The two field formats are not interchangeable. Plan any mixed-format layout around these differences in size, thickness, and joint width. The mosaic and bullnose follow the 12×24’s 8.2mm thickness and 3/16″ joint.
Can the 24×48 and 12×24 be combined in one pattern?
They can be specified together, but the formats differ in thickness (9.0mm vs. 8.2mm), actual dimensions, and minimum grout joint (1/8″ vs. 3/16″). A mixed layout needs to account for all three. Confirm the approach with your installer before committing to a multi-format pattern.
Why does Gard Stone list different grout joints for different sizes?
The manufacturer specifies a 1/8″ minimum joint for the 24×48. The 12×24, 2×2 mosaic, and bullnose are specified at 3/16″. Joint width affects both layout and how prominent the grout lines appear.
How much shade variation should I expect?
Gard Stone is rated V3, which indicates moderate variation between pieces. Review a range of pieces from current production before approving a selection, especially for large open floors where variation is most visible.
How does Gard Stone compare to Ethan Stone?
Both are matte porcelain collections with the same published DCOF, breaking strength, Mohs, absorption, chemical, and abrasion values. The differences:
