Collection Overview

Collection Summary

Acanto by Estudio is a dimensional ceramic wall tile collection from Spanish manufacturer Estudio Cerámico, produced in a 10 x 40 cm (4″ x 16″) format.

  • Two relief profiles: V-Ribbed (15 mm) and Reeded (10 mm)
  • Two finishes: gloss and matte
  • Seven solid colors: White, Bone, Khaki, Almond, Ginger, Olive, and Baltic Blue

That makes 28 combinations of relief, finish, and color. Estudio Cerámico designed Acanto for a minimalist look. The reliefs create three-dimensional walls whose appearance changes with light and viewing angle, which is the collection’s defining characteristic.

Design & Aesthetic

Acanto pairs restrained color with pronounced surface form.

  • V-Ribbed is the deeper relief at 15 mm, with a more pronounced profile.
  • Reeded is the shallower relief at 10 mm.

Gloss surfaces catch highlights along each ridge. Matte surfaces read more through shadow and form. Estudio Cerámico’s own installation imagery pairs Reeded Bone in gloss and matte, which shows that both finishes can work together on one wall.

The palette moves from soft neutrals (White, Bone, Almond, Khaki) to warmer and deeper accents (Ginger, Olive, Baltic Blue). Acanto is rated V1 (uniform appearance), so color stays consistent and the relief carries the visual movement.

Material & Craftsmanship

Acanto is a glazed ceramic wall tile with a BIII body (water absorption > 10%) and a modulus of rupture above 15 N/mm². This places it firmly in the interior wall tile category, unlike the porcelain bodies used in other Estudio Cerámico collections. The collection is made in Spain.

Design Applications

  • Feature walls: Hospitality lobbies, reception desks, restaurant walls, and residential living spaces where raking light can play across the relief.
  • Bathroom walls: Vanity walls and wainscots, where a single color in relief adds depth without pattern.
  • Retail and commercial interiors: The uniform color and strong linear profile support large, continuous wall surfaces.

Specifying Acanto

  • Choose the relief depth deliberately. V-Ribbed (15 mm) and Reeded (10 mm) differ in depth. Review edge transitions, outlet and switch locations, and adjacent finishes with the installer before finalizing.
  • Interior walls only, unless confirmed otherwise. Acanto’s BIII ceramic body and the absence of a frost-resistance result on the data sheet mean outdoor use is not supported by the available sources.
  • Wet areas: Tile X Design lists bathroom use. The manufacturer recommends waterproof grout where there is water contact. Shower-wall use is not listed, so confirm with a TXD representative before specifying it.
  • Layout: Estudio Cerámico advises against offsets greater than 25%, which matters for a 4″ x 16″ plank. Stacked layouts follow the manufacturer’s guidance.
  • Joints and setting materials: The manufacturer calls for a minimum 2 mm joint, C2 cementitious or R epoxy adhesive, and CG2 or RG grout.
  • Ordering: Order at least 5% extra and confirm lead times with a TXD representative.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between Acanto V-Ribbed and Reeded?

The two differ mainly in relief depth. V-Ribbed has a 15 mm profile and Reeded a 10 mm profile, so V-Ribbed produces the more pronounced shadow lines. Both come in all seven colors, in gloss and matte.

Should a dimensional Acanto wall be gloss or matte?

Gloss emphasizes highlights along each ridge and reads brighter. Matte gives a softer surface defined by shadow. Because every color is offered in both finishes, the two can be combined on one wall, as in Estudio Cerámico’s Reeded Bone installation imagery.

Can Acanto be used outdoors?

The available sources do not support outdoor use. Acanto has a BIII ceramic body (absorption > 10%), and the manufacturer data sheet reports no frost-resistance result. Tile X Design lists the collection for walls only.

Can 4″ x 16″ Acanto tiles be laid in a running bond?

Estudio Cerámico advises against offsets greater than 25% to prevent lippage. A stacked layout or an offset of 25% or less follows the manufacturer’s guidance.
