Select an Appropriate Adhesive

Choosing the right adhesive for your wall tile helps ensure the tiles will adhere properly and endure over time. Therefore, your adhesive should be compatible with the type of tile you’re (i.e., ceramic, porcelain, mosaic, etc.) and the application (i.e., kitchen, bathroom, or living room).

Find a Complementary Grout Color

When it comes to selecting grout, take time to deliberate on your color choice, as it plays a crucial role in the overall visual impact of your installation.

We recommend opting for a grout color that harmonizes with your tiles, ensuring a seamless and aesthetically pleasing result, while also prioritizing resistance to stains and moisture for long-lasting durability.

How To Install Wall Tile

  1. Prepare the Surface

Ensure that the wall surface is clean, dry, and free from any debris. Remember to repair any cracks or imperfections before getting started, ensuring that the surface is smooth and level.

  1. Plan and Layout

Plan the layout of your tiles, taking into consideration their size and shape, as well as any patterns or designs you’re hoping to create.

When tiling a wall, it’s recommended to start at the most visible and central point and work your way outwards.

The 3/4/5 rule can be a helpful guideline for ensuring your tiles are aligned correctly. This rule involves measuring:

  • 3 feet along one wall
  • 4 feet along the adjacent wall
  • Adjusting until the diagonal measurement is 5 feet

Doing so will help you create straight and even tile lines.

  1. Apply the Adhesive

Using a trowel, apply the adhesive to the wall in a consistent layer. Work in small sections to prevent the adhesive from drying out before you place the tiles.

  1. Place the Tiles

Carefully press the tiles into the adhesive, using spacers to ensure even spacing between each tile. Use a level to keep the tiles straight and aligned.

  1. Cut Tiles as Needed

Use a tile cutter or wet saw to cut tiles to fit around edges, corners, or obstacles on the wall.

  1. Apply Grout

Once the adhesive has set, apply grout using a grout float, pressing it into the spaces between the tiles at a 45-degree angle. Remove excess grout with a damp sponge.

  1. Clean and Seal

After the grout has dried, clean the tiles with a damp sponge to remove any grout residue. Allow the grout to cure, then apply a grout sealer to protect the grout from stains and moisture.

Maintain a Polished Look and Feel

Once your tiles are in place, the next part is keeping them in top condition. Regular cleaning and maintenance will help preserve the beauty of your wall tile installation.

Be sure to use appropriate cleaning products and techniques that are suitable for the type of tile you’ve chosen.
